Next Up!!!!! My Armoire!!!!!

Let us continue the exciting exploration of my master bedroom.....
Here is my armoire.
I fell in love with this piece while I was still living in Watertown.
I would look at it in the antique store I visited,
 lust dripping from my eyes.....
But, woe was me.....
I had
no place to put it!!!!!
And then I moved.
AND THEN I HAD A PLACE TO PUT IT!!!!!
Life is funny that way.....
 When I first got it,
it didn't have a curtain behind the glass door
I lived with it like this,
for a while,
didn't like the way it looked,
ignored it.
and ignored it.
and ignored it.
etc.
etc.
etc,
I could lie, and say that I installed the gathered sheer curtain within the first year I had it.
Or the second year.....
Or third....
Or fourth.....
But that would be a bad thing to do,
I try not to lie.
soooooooo.......
I will admit, that I just made this curtain a couple of weeks ago.
Which is 8 years after I bought the armoire........
I figured it would take 1/2 an hour to make the curtain.
HA!!!!!
First I made it too short.....
Then I made it too long.....
So I crammed the extra fabric down behind the bottom rod, and figured,
 it would stay that way.
IT WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!!!!!!
This is the great part of not having a client!!!!!
I can sort of tweak my mistakes, and live with the imperfection!!!!!
This piece is another example of my love of 1920's style furniture that has a Louis XVI flavor.
There's just something about the details that sucks me in and won't let me goooooooo.......

Of course, since there is a top to an armoire.....
That creates a whole nother surface to place things
 of an unnecessary nature!!!!!
I found the Nantucket basket knock off at the Christmas Tree Shop.....
and flanked it with my carved wooden poodle candlesticks.....
I'd like to say that these were a bargain too.....
But I paid a king's ransom for them when I bought them from
John Rosselli's in Manhattan.
Because of their cost,
I have allowed a really good protective covering of dust to accumulate.....
To the right of all this prettiness, is the most important thing up there.....
I picked this up from the Christmas Tree Shop at the same time I bought the basket.
Since my ceiling in my bedroom is too low to have a ceiling fan.....
And ceiling fans are great for holding hot flashes at bay.....
I turn this baby on at night to create a soft cooling breeze.
Now that I look at this picture, I see this guy needs to be dusted also....
OY OY OY OY OY!!!!!
That's it for my armoire.
 ONE LAST NOTE!!!!!
I realized that my humor may be toooooooo subtle for some of you guys.
You may have missed one of my best quips!!!!!
In my last post I made a reference to
Eau De Ban
as my perfume of choice.
That was a joke you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was referring to Ban deodorant !!!!!

On that note.....

A Cottage Dressing Table

ONWARD WITH MY BEDROOM!!!
Let us continue where we left off....
Last we checked in.....
I was regaling you with tales from the left side of my bed.
No, No, No, No, No......
Shame on you guys!!!!!
I'm talkin' decoratin' stories here!!!!!

Now that we've restored a little decorum,
(Well as much as can be expected
 on this here blog.....)
Let me show you my dressing table.
I would like to point out at this juncture,
I DON'T USE THIS TABLE!!!!!
But I like to look at it....,
To me, no bedroom is really a girly girl bedroom without a dressing table.
Since I rarely wear makeup anymore,
and when I do, I put it on leaning over my sink.....
I have no real need for this piece of furniture, except that it holds all my fake jewelry.
It's good to have a place to store stuff that I never wear.....
(I used to wear it, can't be bothered, but it's
 MINE, MINE, MINE,
 and I'm not sharing!!!!!)
I found this table in a local junky antique multi-vendor store.
But it went out of business, and I am still in mourning.
When I bought it, I thought that I may paint it, but I love the way the wood looks in the room.
It's another nice old 1920's Louis XVI piece that just sucked me in.
This is my favorite period for furniture.
It works really well in my bedroom because it is so shallow (17") that it doesn't take up much floor space, but still has a big visual impact.
I like the way the brass detailing combines the table, chair and mirror.

The mirror was one of those purchases that I made, thinking it looked tacky, but would hold me over until I found something better.
When I got it home and put it in place,
Well....
hit me over the head with a decorating book!!!!!
I LOVED IT!!!!!
The scale, style and metal, all married so well.
WHO WOULD A THUNK IT????
See????
Even old burnt out decorators get surprised by stuff.
Keep an open mind to things and you could save a little moolah!
True to form, I covered the top of the table with stuff I never use.....
Especially perfume bottles.
I LOVE PERFUME BOTTLES!!!!!
What wonderful accessories.....
They is soooooo pretty!!!!!
BUT I NEVER WEAR PERFUME.......
NEVER.
I wear Eau De Ban!!!!!
Bear with me, it's hard taking a picture, shooting into a window.......
This pare of bottles I got from my Mom.
Don't let my two sisters know.
They're supposed to read this blog, but they never do.
HA!
This'll teach em!!!!
These bottles were on my Mom's dressing table when we grew up.
We all love them.
Well.....
Now they're mine, mine, mine!!!!!
I found the pair of vanity lamps on.....
THAT'S RIGHT!!!!!
ebay!!!!!!!!!
I love mirror based lamps.
They go with the sconces I hung over my bed....
I have a real weakness for etched glass like this.
It is sooooooooo pruty!!!!!
Even the lamp stem is etched!!!!!

The lampshades are smocked like those over my bed.
 Talk about your stunning detail!!!!!
These babies are hand sewn.
So,
that's the story of my dressing table.
This room gets more and more exciting!!!!!
Next up......
MY ARMOIRE!!!!!
So stay tuned
